This fundamental principle in citizenship practice refers to the need to educate citizens about laws, their importance and the means to enjoy the protection and rights these laws provide. Knowledge of laws requires, furthermore, knowledge of the system through which laws are applied and implemented.
Legal awareness is a complex and extensive process that requires the collaboration of many national institutions; such as school, university, media, and civil society organizations.
It is well known that this awareness is negligible in our country, whereas law implementation is arbitrary, and the law is severely violated without any accountability or punishment.
This book attempts to contribute to this awareness process. It is an insufficient but necessary contribution to obtain a clear and systematic idea about the judicial system in Syria.
